Aosta Cushion
Looking for more ways to incorporate knitting into your life? Me too. Enter: the Aosta Cushion! The newest addition to the Aosta Collection will be your new favourite squeeze.
This is a knitting pattern for a simple cushion cover worked in all over Andalusian stitch on 7 mm needles. The pattern has instructions for 4 different sized cushions and has been designed to use Icelandic wool, since many knitters want to try this type of yarn but may not be able to wear it close to their skin.
Please note that this is a digital pdf and not a physical knitting pattern. Many thanks to the test knitters for their photos.

Gauge: 14 stitches x 17 rows in Andalusian stitch (see below) on 7 mm needles = 10 x 10 cm. Please note that your row gauge does not have to be perfect to work this pattern successfully and a little bit of negative ease is your friend here. However, your stitch gauge does need to be as close to 14 stitches as possible to yield the best results.
Materials & Fit
Notions: 7 mm (60 and 80 cm for sizes 1 2 and 3, and 80 and 100 cm for size 4 ) circular needles. Feel free to adjust your needle size up or down accordingly, working in 0.5 mm increments, to meet gauge.
You will also need a couple of stitch markers, one of which should be in a contrasting colour to indicate the beginning of the round, and a darning needle. And, of course, you will need a cushion insert in your desired size!
Yarn: 2 (2) 2 (3) plates of Lopi Plötulopi (100 g = 300 m) and 1 (1) 2 (3) skeins of a mohair of your choice (approx. 25 g = 210 m). You will be working with 3 strands held together (2 strands of Plötulopi + 1 strand of mohair).
Total approximate meterage of Plötulopi: 243 (405) 521 (891) m
Total approximate meterage of mohair: 122 (210) 260 (450) m
Please note that the meterage given here for Plötulopi is with the yarn held double. If you are holding a yarn (e.g., Àlafosslopi) by itself, you can halve this number.
Yarn alternatives: You can also use a single strand of Lopi Álafosslopi, with or without the accompanying mohair. If you cannot tolerate Icelandic wool, I have also made a sample with 2 strands of Isager Eco-Soft held together with 1 strand of mohair. This is a great project for using up scrap mohair, as you could alternate between different colours to create a really interesting effect.
Dimensions: This pattern contains instructions for cushions measuring 30 cm x 30 cm (12 inch x 12 inch), 40 cm x 40 cm (16 inch x 16 inch), 45 cm x 45 cm (18 inch x 18 inch) and 60 cm x 60 cm (24 inch x 24 inch). These measurements correspond to sizes 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively. The sample is Size 2.
This pattern calls for Judy’s Magic Cast-On, working in the round using magic loop, and Kitchener’s Stitch. Descriptions of each technique are given in the pattern with references to recommended YouTube tutorials.
